Le suédois avait gagné le premier duel, avant que le septuple champion du monde de F1 n'égalise. Dans l'ultime manche, Ekström a franchi la ligne d'arrivée en vainqueur, tandis que Schumacher est parti en tête-à-queue dans le dernier virage.
L'allemand se consolera avec sa victoire dans la Nations Cup, remportée avec Sébastian Vettel aux dépends de l'équipage finlandais emmené par Heikki Kovalainen et Marcus Grönholm.
