Johnny Cecotto Jr a réalisé la première pole positon de sa carrière en GP2 Series grâce à un très bon tour dans les rues de la Principauté. Le pilote vénézuélien a bouclé le meilleur tour de cette séance en 1:21.195 pour devancer Max Chilton et Marcus Ericsson.
L’expérimenté Giedo van der Garde a terminé la séance en quatrième position devant le Brésilien Luiz Razia et Jolyon Palmer. Vainqueur de l’épreuve en 2011, Davide Valsecchi n’a signé que le septième temps de cette séance devant Josef Kral, Fabio Leimer et Esteban Gutierrez.
Tom Dillmann a signé le 11ème temps de cette séance en 1 :22.288. Pour ses débuts sur le circuit de Monaco, le Français a rapidement pris ses marques et devant le local de l’étape Stefano Coletti. Nathanael Berthon est quant à lui 16ème.
