Course 3 : Kristoffersson vainqueur, Michelisz champion !
Alors que Johann Kristoffersson a remporté une victoire d'anthologie depuis la 22e place, Norbert Michelisz, huitième, s'est adjugé le titre WTCR 2019 à l'issue d'une finale au scénario incroyable à Sepang.

C'est finalement Norbert Michelisz qui a été sacré Champion WTCR 2019, à l'issue d'une finale à suspense, et d'un titre qui a changé de mains à plusieurs reprises.
Car, s'il s'était élancé de la pole position, le pilote Hongrois a été devancé au départ par son rival pour le titre Esteban Guerrieri, avant de perdre une nouvelle position au profit de Miguel Azcona. A ce moment, c'est Guerrieri qui était virtuellement Champion.

Mais la pression allait s'intensifier pour le pilote argentin, sous la pression d'Azcona, puis de la Volkswagen de Johann Krisroffersson, revenu de la 22e place au départ ! Après une dure bataille avec Azcona, où les positions allaient s'inverser à plusieurs reprises (et l'issue du championnat également), Guerrieri connaissait une première alerte avec une escapade dans l'herbe suite à une touchette avec le pilote espagnol.
Kristoffersson en profitait pour recoller aux deux hommes puis finalement à prendre la tête, alors que Guerrieri ralentissait subitement, en proie à des problèmes de surchauffe moteur, ce qui condamnait définitivement ses espoirs de titre.
Alors que Johann Kristoffersson remportait la dernière manche de la saison pour Volkswagen et le Sébastien Loeb Racing, Miguel Azcona terminait deuxième alors que Kevin Ceccon complétait le podium sur son Alfa Romeo. Frédéric Vervisch (Audi) terminait quatrième devant Norbert Michelisz, qui décrochait ainsi le titre de Champion WTCR 2019 au bout du suspense.
Gabriele Tarquini (Hyundai) terminait sixième devant Nestor Girolami, Tiago Monteiro, Thed Björk et Benjamin Leuchter, qui complètent le top 10.
Du côté des prétendants au titre, Yvan Muller termine 13e alors que Esteban Guerrieri termine au fond du classement, à la 22e place.
Quant au classement par équipe, c'est Lynk & Co Cyan Racing qui remporte le titre.
